One way angels work
is when they work through us. They inhabit our souls
causing us to give
loving gifts to one another
exactly when and where
they are needed.
Our job is to open our hearts
because the heart
is the door through which
angels enter.
Here are two stories of angels showing up exactly when and where there were needed.
OPPORTUNISTS
If you live in the inner city where there may be a lot of opportunists one thing you come to realize is that if you are paying attention to your surroundings you are less likely to be regarded as prey
by the opportunists, even if you're in a wheelchair like I am. One day I had to go to the ATM at the convenient store around the corner. It'd been snowing and power wheelchairs don't do well in wet environments. But I had to go get money. So I successfully made my through the snow to the convenient store. By the time I got there I was a bit distracted by navigating my way through the snow. So I get there use the ATM and take care of my business. As I'm leaving this young guy from somewhere in the Middle East and I suspect is part owner says "let me get the door for you." As I'm going out the door he says"Did you see those guys standing behind you?" I says "no, I wasn't paying attention." He says "they were watching everything you were doing." Which suggests that they got my pin number and intended to jack me for my card. He says "I'm going to walk with you for a block." As we are walking along; well he's walking and I'm rolling, we see the two guys in a restaurant that is near the store. We are looking at them they're looking at us and they know we know. I usually remember to pay attention. Now i'll remember to not be distracted. I appreciate that my friend from the convenient store had my back.
You never know who your angels might be.
STRANDED
I am wheelchair-bound. I have a power wheelchair. Obviously it doesn't do well in the snow. A couple of days ago there was a snowstorm and because I can't see what the sidewalks look like from my third-floor apartment I have to go downstairs and out the front door to see if I'm even able to get where I'm going on my wheelchair. So I get downstairs I go out the door and I see that the sidewalks are clear. Awesome! No snow on the pavement anywhere. I should be able to get where I'm going with no problem. What happens next is a perfect example of don't count your chickens before they're hatched. I am on my way to Walgreens and I come to a patch of sidewalk that is out. All there is is gravel for about 10 feet. I think to myself "I hope I can get through this". Guess what? Nope! I get stuck in this gravel pit and can't go anywhere. Ironic isn't it? No snow and I get stuck anyway. So I'm up out of my chair; which by the way I don't do well, trying to get my chair out of this gravel. There is a CTA bus coming down 71st St. and it stops in the middle block right by where I am.
I say to myself that's interesting, I wonder why it's stopping here? Then these three guys get off the bus pick up my wheelchair out of the gravel pit put it back on the sidewalk. I thank them, they get back on the bus and away it goes.
Now there are at least four angels involved here👼🏾 The three guys that helped me with the wheelchair as well as the bus driver who stopped to let them get off. This was a truly blessed moment. We hear so much about the big bad things people do and very little about all the small good things people do every day. So I am writing this because we need to hear more about the angels that show up as us and do good every day.
